Welcome to our blog. We’re probably the 8,674,785th and 8,674,786th people to say that but we’re entering the blogging scene and we don’t care who knows it. Sure, blogs are a dime a dozen these days, but we’re joining the sphere because we’re passionate, hungry, and hopeful.
To cut to the chase, we’re two sisters in our mid, soon to be late, 20s with a shared pastime - traveling. We’re both writers by trade - Gabbi focuses on the copywriting side, while Alex specializes in magazine feature writing and they both meet in the middle (the industry is tough so it’s almost imperative to go out of your comfort zone).
Our parents hail from Europe - our mom was born in an industrial city north of London called Birmingham and our father was from a town on the outskirts of Paris. We grew up visiting these locales, never taking for granted the amazing experiences travel affords.
Over the years we’ve aimed to get as many trips as possible under our belt, etching each place and experience indelibly into our memories and carrying on to the next adventure. Over the course of 2017, we jam packed six months in Ireland, a week in Tenerife, a jaunt in Iceland followed by a few days in Birmingham, a weekend in Wales, and two separate weeks in New York.
Which got us thinking...if we don’t chronicle this, we’re nuts.
Enter We’re After the Horizon, affectionately known as WATH (with a long ‘a’ sound like in wasp). The name was inspired by a tune via our favorite singer-songwriters, Johnnyswim, called Live While We’re Young and Audrey Hepburn’s rendition of Moon River.
It took us about six months to get in gear, beat our procrastination into submission, and convert our Google drive ideas into a tangible product. But alas, here we are. Our goal is to simply recount our experiences, clue you in on places you just cannot miss, and share the tips we wish we had.
The world is a big place and we want to see it all. Technically, you can never catch up with the horizon, but we don’t mind. We’re after it anyway.
